Jconfarm Restaurant in Calamba Misamis Occidental

Where the idea of a restaurant came from

The Jconfarm Restaurant in Calamba Misamis Occidental was an idea first conceived about four years ago. Jconfarm had a bar in operation for about a year or so when we decided that it would be a good idea to have a fish restaurant added. Jconfarm was predominantly a Tilapia fish farm at that time so there was no shortage of fish. The only other fish which was available was in the local market.
At that time also there was a warning of “Red Tide“. Red Tide is a discoloration of seawater caused by a bloom of toxic red dinoflagellates which poisons the fish. This red tide warning more or less shut down the local fish market, so no fish were available. This of course raised the requirement of fish from Jconfarm. Another reason we decided on a fish restaurant was because there was no fish restaurant in Calamba with a fish speciality. Jconfarm was the first along with the first hotel in Calamba Misamis Occidental.
We started with a small restaurant
When we first started a restaurant in Calamba Misamis Occidental

At the beginning, when we started the Jconfarm restaurant in Calamba
Misamis Occidental, we obviously needed a good location for it. The best we could do was to convert a section of the Jconfarm bar into a small dining area or a small restaurant. This would give us some idea of how a restaurant would perform in this area. We wanted to monitor it for some time before we went and plowed money into something that may not work out.
During the time we operated the small restaurant it became clear that we needed to expand. The section of the bar we had turned into the dining area was now just not big enough. Sometimes we would have many people using the bar and eating at the same time which wasn’t really the best situation to be in. Jconfarm decided it was time to go ahead and increase the size of the dining area to cope with the people using it.
We needed a larger dining area
Present day Jconfarm Restaurant in Calamba Misamis Occidental
The present day Jconfarm Restaurant was actually a wooden bridge at the time when we first started the small Restaurant. We decided this area would suit our expansion requirements very well. It ran from the Jconfarm bar area out into one of the fish ponds. We had some seating there and we used to use it as a storage area and for housing some dogs. Well we converted this bridge from a wooden structure into a wider concreted floor area and replaced to roofing.
The extra space gave guests more room, more privacy and comfort while dining. It also gave us the extra space we required for the number of people using the restaurant. Recently we tiled the floor and built a stage at the backside of the restaurant. We have plans to have buffet type food and have live music maybe on a Sunday for brunch. It is a plan at the moment but hopefully it will materialize in the near future.
The Menu
Drawing up a menu for Jconfarm Restaurant in Calamba Misamis Occidental
When the Jconfarm restaurant was first opened it was really just to serve fish. Tilapia fish to be more precise. Our menu just had fish, fish and more fish. Soon there were requests by many guests to include chicken, beef and pork etc. so we agreed with all those requests and revised our menu accordingly.
This new menu changed the original idea of a fish only restaurant into a main stream restaurant. We will happily send a copy of our menu to anyone who requests it. We can send it by post or email it whichever is more convenient for you.

Tilapia fish is still the specialty in the restaurant and fried, sugba, kinilaw, sweet & sour Tilapia is very much in demand. We always catch the fish as per customers order to ensure freshness. Even though there may be some waiting time doing it this way, the wait is well worth it.
You may place an order over the phone to avoid waiting an we will have it ready for you when you arrive. Also if you book into our hotel we serve room service at no extra charge, this included bed and breakfast.
Pulutan
Snacks taken while drinking beer.
When we drew up the latest Jconfarm Restaurant menu we were going to include Pulutan in it. They are like snacks which are normally eaten while drinking beer.

I was always used to peanuts and chips etc when having a beer. Well here in the Philippines it’s the same but the menu is more extensive. There are still salted peanuts, chips etc or junk foods as they are commonly known as here. Instead of adding them to the main menu we decided that a separate menu should be used for Pulutan.
When we opened the Summer Cafe, which is located just inside the entrance to Jconfarm some time back. We started selling Mexican Burrito, chicken and beef Sharma, burgers among other types of fast foods. This type of food was, and still is well liked by customers. So now we are going to included them into our new Pulutan menu. We also have a new addition to this kind of food which is the Donner Kebab. Our plan is to launch this new menu by the end of this month, hopefully it will be a success.
Brunch
New Ideas
We are now trying to come up with new ideas for the Jconfarm Restaurant in Calamba Misamis Occidental. One which we would like to introduce shortly is a Sunday brunch. It’s a take between breakfast and lunch which is very common in hotels etc. We will now start to draw up a menu for this new idea and see how our customers like this new concept.
As far as we know there is no other Restaurant in Calamba Misamis Occidental that is doing this. So hopefully this will be another first for Jconfarm. There are other ideas also which we are contemplating but more about them in a future issue. You may also visit our our amenities page to see what else is offered here.
Anybody that is reading this is very welcome to write in and give an idea of what you would like to see added to the menu of Jconfarm Restaurant.
